The Government of Pakistan – Ministry of Railways has invited applications from suitable, qualified, and experienced professionals to strengthen Pakistan Railways’ digital transformation. This hiring round covers senior leadership and specialist roles on the MP-III scale at Pakistan Railways Headquarters, Lahore (with posting anywhere in Pakistan if required). Positions announced are: Project Manager (Software/IT), Deputy Director IT (Software Systems), Deputy Director IT (Infrastructure), Software Developer (UI/UX Designer), Software Developer (Mobile Application Development), and Software Developer (Web Application Development). These appointments are contract-based under the Updated MP Scales Policy, 2020, initially for three (03) years, extendable year-to-year up to two (02) additional years subject to performance.

What you’ll be doing (role-wise highlights)

Project Manager – Software (IT)

  • Lead the delivery of mission-critical products—ticketing, freight, ERP, and customer apps—across multiple squads.
  • Establish roadmaps, budgets, and procurement plans aligned with MP-III governance; create and track OKRs/KPIs.
  • Own vendor management, risk registers, and inter-departmental coordination (operations, finance, HR, signals, rolling stock).
  • Ensure compliance with National Cyber Security directions and government IT standards; champion DevSecOps and secure SDLC.
  • Produce executive dashboards for the Secretary/Additional Secretary Railways and brief the Steering Committee on progress.

Deputy Director IT (Software Systems)

  • Architect and oversee enterprise software stacks (portal, middleware, APIs, microservices).
  • Lead code quality, documentation, test automation, and CI/CD pipelines; manage releases with rollback/blue-green strategies.
  • Integrate with payment gateways, SMS gateways, and third-party logistics systems while ensuring data integrity and uptime SLAs.

Deputy Director IT (Infrastructure)

  • Modernize data centers and hybrid cloud (on-prem + public cloud as approved), including virtualization, container orchestration, backups, and DR sites.
  • Strengthen identity and access management, network segmentation, monitoring/SIEM, and zero-trust controls.
  • Plan capacity for peak travel seasons; benchmark performance and optimize cost of ownership.

Software Developer (UI/UX Designer)

  • Translate complex public-service workflows into clean interfaces for web and mobile.
  • Build accessible design systems (WCAG), conduct usability testing, and convert wireframes to responsive front-end code.
  • Collaborate with product owners and QA to maintain high customer satisfaction scores.

Software Developer (Mobile App Development)

  • Develop and maintain Android/iOS apps (Kotlin/Swift/Flutter/React Native as appropriate).
  • Implement offline-sync, push notifications, location services for freight tracking, and secure in-app payments.
  • Monitor crash analytics and performance; automate releases via app-store pipelines.

Software Developer (Web Application Development)
