Chairman – WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority), Pakistan

WAPDA needs a new Chairman to steer its water and power projects for the next five years. The post, based in Islamabad, carries MP-I / BPS-22 pay and perks. Applicants must show at least 25 years in the field—with eight spent in senior management—and hold a master’s in business, public administration, finance, or an equivalent professional qualification; serving civil officers in BPS-21 or above may also apply. The Chair will run daily operations, guide major dam and hydropower schemes, work with ministries and donors, and report to the Ministry of Water Resources. Pay, housing, and travel follow MP-I rules. Eligibility & Qualifications ✅

Candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • 🎓 Hold a graduate degree from a recognized university (HEC recognized).
  • Or possess a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, or Finance from a recognized institution.
  • Or be a member of a recognized body of professional accountants.
  • Or be a civil servant (BPS-21 or above) or have held an equivalent position in public service.
  • Must have at least 25 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 8 years in senior or managerial roles.

Job Responsibilities

The Chairman of WAPDA will be entrusted with the following high-impact responsibilities:

  1. National Water Resource Planning & Development
    Lead the execution, planning, and maintenance of water and hydropower resources under the WAPDA Act (1958).
  2. Authority & Strategic Oversight
    Function as the chief executive officer of WAPDA, overseeing financial, technical, and administrative functions of the authority.
  3. Inter-Agency Coordination
    Manage strategic liaisons with ministries, departments, development partners, and stakeholders to ensure efficient follow-up and execution of water and power projects.
  4. International Engagement
    Engage with global institutions and investors on key initiatives related to water, power, and renewable energy.
  5. Additional Duties
    Carry out any other assignments as directed by the Ministry of Water Resources or the Federal Government.

Remuneration Package 💰

The compensation for the position will be competitive and commensurate with experience:

  • If a civil servant or officer is appointed, they will draw pay in BPS-22 along with allowances as per MP-I Scale rules.
  • If the selected candidate is from outside civil service, salary and allowances will be fixed under MP-I Scale rules.
  • Other benefits and perks, such as accommodation and travel, will also be admissible as per the policy.
