About Punjab Rangers
The Punjab Rangers is a key part of Pakistan’s paramilitary forces, one of the two units that make up the Pakistan Rangers. Based in Lahore, their primary mission is to secure the eastern border of Punjab, which stretches for about 1,300 km along India. But their duties don’t stop there. Beyond border protection, the Punjab Rangers play a crucial role in maintaining internal security and supporting law enforcement across the country.
The unit has a long history, with roots going back to 1942 when the British formed the Sindh Police Rifles. Today, they work closely with their Indian counterparts, especially during the famous Wagah border ceremony held every evening. In times of crisis or war, the Punjab Rangers operate under the command of the Pakistan Army, stepping up to defend the nation when needed most.
