Role Overviews & What Success Looks Like

1) Consultant Neurology

As Consultant Neurology at a high-volume cardiac institute, you will anchor neurological care across cardiac ICUs, CCUs, cath labs, and stroke services:

  • Lead acute stroke pathways: triage, NIHSS scoring, thrombolysis/thrombectomy coordination, and door-to-needle time reduction.
  • Provide consults for neurological complications of cardiac procedures (peri-procedural stroke, seizures, hypoxic brain injury, ICU delirium, neuropathies).
  • Oversee neuro-diagnostics liaison (EEG, EMG/NCS) and guide imaging protocols with radiology.
  • Mentor Senior Registrars/Residents; conduct M&M meetings and journal clubs.
  • Drive clinical audits, stroke registries, and quality indicators in collaboration with cardiology, anesthesia, and ICU teams.

Who thrives here: Neurologists who enjoy fast decision-making, cross-disciplinary teamwork, and building evidence-based pathways inside a tertiary cardiac center.

2) Senior Registrar (Critical Care)

You will be part of the heart of critical care at NICVD—supporting cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, and emergency units:

  • Run ICU rounds, optimize ventilation strategies (invasive/NIV/HFNC), sedation/analgesia, hemodynamics, and fluid balance for cardiac and non-cardiac cases.
  • Perform and supervise procedures: arterial lines, central venous access, bedside ultrasound, airway management under supervision, and emergency response (CPR/ACLS).
  • Implement bundles that reduce HAP/VAP/CLABSI and pressure injury rates; champion antimicrobial stewardship with ID and pharmacy.
  • Teach residents and RT teams; contribute to protocol writing and simulation drills (code blue, difficult airway).
  • Ensure meticulous documentation, handovers, and policy compliance.

The ideal profile: FCPS/MD/Equivalent in Anesthesia/Medicine/Critical Care who values structured care, outcomes tracking, and team leadership during off-hours.

3) Respiratory Therapist

Respiratory Therapists at NICVD are integral to ICU and ED performance:

  • Manage ventilator setups, daily weaning assessments, NIV titration, HFNC use, and airway clearance (nebulization, CPT).
  • Conduct ABG sampling/analysis, interpret trends, and communicate adjustments to medical teams.
  • Ensure IPC adherence: circuit care, humidification checks, filter changes, and equipment disinfection.
  • Educate patients and families on inhaler techniques, oxygen safety, and post-discharge respiratory plans.
  • Maintain equipment logs, coordinate with biomedical engineering, and support rapid response calls.

A strong RT brings calm execution during surges, accurate documentation, and a collaborative approach with nurses and physicians.
