What is the work of ASF?
ASF protects the civil aviation sector in Pakistan by implementing counter-terrorism measures, combating crime, and ensuring law and order inside airport boundaries. Major General Abid Latif Khan HI is the current Director-General of the ASF.
History:
The ASF was founded in 1976 as the Directorate of the Department of Civil Aviation under the Airports Security Force Act LXXVII of 1975 01. Following the hijacking of a Pakistan International Airlines jet in March 1981, the Airports Security Force (ASF) was split and put under the Ministry of Defence in December 1983, recognizing the conflicting requirements of security and convenience.
Later, in 2013, an Aviation Division was established under the Cabinet Secretariat, with the Airports Security Force (ASF), Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) all reporting to the new division. Pakistan’s Aviation Division is led by the country’s Aviation Secretary. The ASF is primarily in charge of airport and aviation security.
